The Community Engagement and Development Worker role holds responsibility for developing a programme of work with the Roma community to tackle social exclusion and develop opportunities for employment.  This role will be based within BHA’s Race & Health Service in Manchester.

The successful applicant will work with Roma communities and individuals, statutory and non-statutory organisations, community groups and the business sector to assist in developing employment skills and providing support to families.

The post holder should have a good understanding of working with individuals and families from marginalised communities, familiarity with Romani culture and engagement with Roma in the UK.

Community Engagement and Development Worker - Maternity Cover

HIV Prevention Service, Leeds

Part time - 24 hours per week

Salary: SCP 12-17 - £21,074-£23,111

Beginning August 2018, ending 31st March 2019 (subject to funding)

The Community Engagement and Development Worker role holds responsibility for establishing, developing and delivering targeted community engagement initiatives and health promotion interventions locally as part of a team. This role will be based within BHA’s HIV Prevention Projects for African communities in Leeds.

The successful applicant will work alongside communities, individuals, statutory and non-statutory organisations, community groups, religious leaders and the business sector to promote sexual health and access to services that are appropriate to the needs of the community. The role will involve dissemination of key sexual health promotion and HIV prevention messages, including those addressing stigma and barriers to services, delivered through community based outreach, one-to-one and group based interventions (including screening/testing services) to prevent ill health and improve the health and well-being of individuals, populations and communities.

The post holder will have a wide understanding of African culture and of perceptions amongst African communities in England relating to HIV.

Due to the nature of this post, a Disclosure & Barring Service search will be conducted on the successful applicant.
